This population is exposed to high levels of pollution, including regular fuel spills, fresh water and sewage discharges, and all sorts of garbage and organic contaminants. Pterapogon kauderni was not found outside the harbor. Although both the north and south coastlines surrounding the harbor possess habitats with substrates and environmental conditions far more adequate than those inside the harbor, no populations were found in an extensive search spanning from Botok in the north (∼70 km from Luwuk, including Lamala Bay), to as far south as Luk (∼50 km from Luwuk).
